Clas Ohlson Case Study

When we first started working with the Swedish retailer Clas Ohlson in 2010 they were just entering the UK market. Now they have 11 stores nationwide, most of which we have assisted them in opening.

Clas Ohlson approached Leapfrog International looking for Event Management support throughout the UK for their new store openings which we provided along with support and advice to ensure that their store openings were a success and opened with a bang.

With Clas Ohlson being a new brand to the UK, they wanted to plan store openings that would create a buzz in the local community and get people talking about the coming event which included everything from an Abba tribute band to DIY demonstrations. All of these events were vital to the success of a Clas Ohlson store opening and led to queues of over 500 people who were waiting to get inside and have a look around and get one of the 5 special opening day offers.

In order to aid the success of Clas Ohlson’s new store openings we supplied an Event Manager, to work with their marketing department prior to the events, who planned the openings paying attention to the minutest detail to make sure that everything went smoothly on the day. This was a necessity in December 2010 when we helped them open 3 stores in 3 days! We helped with everything from booking suppliers, managing the queue on opening day, looking after celebrities, managing promotional staff to briefing and motivating the store team.

For each new store opening Leapfrog International provided the store staff with a comprehensive schedule of what was going to happen and when.  This was to ensure that everyone was not only involved, but also knew what was happening throughout the day. This helped the store team to bond and get excited about working for this unique Swedish store.

As part of the store openings we worked closely with local councils and shopping centre management to ensure the queues outside the stores were properly managed and that the Health and Safety of everyone was top priority which required regular communication between all parties.

With 11 stores now open and more coming in 2011, the talk amongst the staff on opening day is whether they can get the highest first day sales out of all stores! We look forward to developing our relationship with Clas Ohlson, assisting their future store openings and helping them on their journey to becoming a nationally recognised brand.
